I received my CJ and all accessories, including the stand which I feel is quite essential to this setup. FWIW I did pay the extra shipping, although I do not think I needed to as all my items arrived a few days after paying the extra shipping. I have really been enjoying using the system for about 3 weeks now. I have followed all recommendations in your video posts, and
I was getting great crema using Lavazza Espresso roast. My issue is that my CJ unit has failed at the locking ring on the main unit - the plastic just cracked off at one of the "ears" or "tabs" while I was pumping. This looks to be a manufacturing defect as I had already made probably 50 espressos without issue. Unfortunately, since it's the main body that is damaged, I can no longer use the system. What is the process of getting this warrantied/replaced?
. Please let me know. Look forward to hearing from you soon!
I can see that the last post on this is from November last year, has anyone made any headway on this? Mine broke in the same place a couple of days ago. I'm a mechanical engineer. This is a design fault. It's obvious from the number of people demonstrating the exact same mechanical failure. I'd wager that there's a fatigue element to it. I'd been using my CJ for about 9 months, and once I got the hang of it, I was using it in a very consistent, i.e. little-to-no variation in how much I filled it, how hard I pumped it, etc. Yet, without changing my use of the thing (which was entirely within the recommended use), it broke. That's a design issue.
What's the solution here?
I like how now they are blaming this part failure on "user error". Like we all haven't been following your kickstarter from the beginning and watched all your videos etc. Not a good look for the CJ team. And if the main body is going to fail before a seal , o-ring, etc, it's just poor engineering... but Ooooook i'll listen to your sob story and play ball one final time with an additional $8 out of pocket before this becomes a write-off chucked into the bin.
So let me get this straight CJ team... I need to pay again to replace a defective part?
Looks like the new "Help Center" is how we have to start the process of getting a replacement for damaged parts. They are calling this broken section the "bayonet". I submitted a request here https://www.coffeejack.co.uk/helpcentre and I'm hoping it's not another 9 months before I get an answer.
My CJ broke in the same way after fewer than 20 cups.
Did anyone get a response?
I've had the exact same issue - very disappointed. And it happened on my first try.
Mine broke in exactly the same place. Was working fine and I was weighing out 12g (because I couldn't get 14g in) and enjoying my coffee each morning but then it suddenly broke one morning.
Now you can add me to this list. It just happened to me. So after 5 months of very good espresso, it just broke while I was pumping. I have been very careful not to overfill the basket, so there must be a weakness in the material. It is strange that there is a misformation in the body so that the broken part does not fit perfectly in the break.
Add me to the list of people who have had this exact same issue. Broke in the exact same pattern/location. Also without overfilling. I would love a replacement part to fix this issue.
So bummed, waited three years measured 12.5 grams but still broke in less than a week, any hope of warranty?
There may be a weakness in the mould of the main unit, but I keep thinking that part of the reason for this failure is overfilled baskets. I don't think the recommendation of 14 grams of coffee is the best, as different roasts of coffee don't have the same weight. Dark roasted coffee (like the italian ones) weight far less than lighter roasted coffee. I usually use dark roasted coffee, a Lavazza type, and when I first got the CJ, there were no way I could get 14 grams of coffee in the basket. A little less than 12 grams filled the basket. While staying in Portugal I have tried different brands, of some I've been able to fill 14 grams, other darker roasted ones, less than 14 grams. My recommendation is to not use the weight (14g) as the only measure, fill the basket flat to the top, then tamp it so you have 4 to 5 millimeters to the top of the basket free. I have used my CJ for two months now, without any bigger problems, and I still use it and make good espressos.
I reached out to CJ and this is the response I received:

Mine broke in the very same place as well.
Unfortunately, I just experienced the same problem myself today! I’ve at least got a Kompresso as a backup, but I was really pretty fond of this little guy until suddenly, bang, the bayonet just gave out
Well, add my name to this list too. Exact same issue while attempting a cup with an illy espresso grind. On top of that, my email bounced when trying to email hello@coffeejack.co.uk. Hmmm
I've got exactly the same issue! My CJ broke this morning and looks just exactly as yours in the pictures. Did you have any help so far?
Hello - I have still not heard from anyone regarding warranty of this unit?
