Having gone through the website-based process for reporting damage, getting a replacement parts discount code, and placing an order which has just arrived today, I'm glad to have my CJ back in action after nearly 9 months' layoff and scarcely 2 months of actual use following its initial delivery.
Sadly, the company shipped my two replacement glass chambers in nothing more than bubble wrap and a bubble-wrap envelope, leading to one of the chambers getting crushed by the time it reached me. The package didn't even bear "Fragile" stickers. I can only count my blessings for having the foresight to order two, lest I end up with a single destroyed part and a still-useless CJ.
For whatever struggles the company has been facing, it seems indefensible that they'd further lumber themselves with such easily avoidable options as substandard packing materials. In my imagination, the additional cost (both for materials and shipping rates) of using reasonably sturdy cartons and "Fragile" stickers couldn't be a barrier but short of an explanation from the company, I guess I'll never know.
(For context, I'll say that I've been one of the "lucky" CJ backers from early on in the crowdfunding campaign. I ordered a fairly full kit with the tamper, stand, and extra baskets without which the CJ would have been far more frustrating to try to use. I received the shipment relatively early, having paid the extra delivery fee, and even though the whole thing was only packaged in a kind of super-sized bubble-pack envelope, everything arrived safely. Yes, I opted for the "eco-friendly", gift-box-free packaging but the company still rolled the dice on shipping damage.)
